There is no Indian statute that names sex toys and bans them. Wash by material, not by habit. Non-porous items — platinum-cure silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel, ABS — take unscented soap and warm water. Non-motorised silicone, glass and steel can additionally be boiled for ten minutes for a genuine sterilisation. Nothing with a motor or a battery goes in water beyond a damp cloth.
Reach the texture. Grooves, ridges and internal channels hold residue that a surface wipe misses entirely. Turn open-ended sleeves inside out where the design allows. A soft brush kept solely for this purpose handles deep texture.
Dry completely, and give it longer than feels necessary. This is the step people skip and the one that matters most. Stand sleeves and torso formats to drain rather than laying them flat, and leave motorised units disassembled until every surface is dry to the touch.
Powder porous materials. TPE and TPR go tacky as they age. A light dusting of cornflour or the renewal powder supplied with the product restores the surface and slows the deterioration considerably.
Store separately, in fabric. Different silicone formulations can react where they touch, leaving both surfaces permanently marked. Individual cotton bags beat a shared drawer, and airtight plastic traps any residual moisture against the surface.
Charge before storing, not after. Lithium cells degrade when left flat for months. Around half charge is ideal for anything going into long storage, and unsealed battery units should have their cells removed to avoid leakage damage.
When to replace rather than clean
Porous items are consumables. Replace TPE and jelly pieces when the surface stays tacky after powdering, when any smell persists after washing, or when discolouration appears — all three indicate the material has broken down and no cleaning routine will reverse it. Silicone, glass and steel last indefinitely if undamaged, but silicone should be retired at the first split or tear, since a torn surface can no longer be cleaned properly.
