Wearing braces should not hamper the joy and pleasure of kissing as it is one of the intimate things that you and your partner indulge in. Kissing is not only enjoyable, but also boosts the bonding and has the capacity to unite the souls.

The tips are not only for teens who wear braces, but for plenty of adults who wear braces. You should remember one thing that young girls develop a crush towards boys with braces. So, chances are that there is always a girl who wants to kiss you hard when you are with your braces.

When your partner has braces, you have no choice but to live with it and you cannot stop kissing. But you need to be watchful and make it slow and gently. You need not refrain from kissing completely out of fear. To make things comfortable between you and your partner, we give below some braces-friendly kissing tips so that you both can enjoy kisses without having to worry about braces coming in between.

  • Don't kiss for the first 2-weeks period: You necessarily have to wait and should not kiss your sweetheart for atelast 2 weeks from the date he or she wears braces. Braces will hurt in the beginning and you need to give him or her sometime before the metal sets in her mouth comfortably. If you try any kind of serious kissing before 2 weeks, it can really hurt and your partner may have to visit the dentist. So, don't try kissing your partner for the first 2 weeks. Of course you can kiss on her cheeks, hands and softly over the lips.
  • Take it slow: Soon after the second week, you can start kissing your partner. But you need to start off slowly and gently so that she finds it comfortable. Go according to her reactions, if she reacts for a gentle pressure from you that is an indication that you should not give any more pressure. So, you can pick up what's good and what's not as you move on. Occasions where she finds it painful, that's where you have to stop and take a step back and start again with a gentle kiss. The thumb rule is to go slow and be gentle in the initial days.
  • Start with close-lipped kiss - Don't push your tongue into her mouth hastily soon after 2 weeks as the metal may hurt your tongue and she may also get hurt when you apply force with your tongue. You can only kiss with your lips and refrain from French kiss. Using a lip gloss to soften your partner's lips before kissing is also recommended. You should only press your lips gently against hers. You don't have to do it too fast or hard as it may hurt you too. Use only your lips and show your passion without opening your lips.
  • Avoid eating hard foods just before your kiss: You don't need to fast but at the same time avoid hard foods that might get stuck in your teeth like a mango or hard chocolate which might stick around your teeth and might hurt when your partner kisses you passionately. There is no problem in taking a melting chocolate or a soft cake or anything that is bracer-friendly. If you both are off to a movie, popcorn is something you should avoid as chances of it getting stuck in your teeth is high and when your partner begins to kiss you suddenly, you might get hurt.
  • Never make fun about braces: How much attached you and your partner may be, but never ever try to make fun of his or her braces. Don’t pass any words like to 'brace face' or 'metal teeth' or don't tease using anything related to braces as they may feel bad about themselves and this may not only affect the quality of kissing but can dent the intensity of your relationship too. If your partner is sensitive then he or she may feel very hurt and can possibly avoid meeting you until the braces are removed completely.
  • Open your mouth wider to let the tongue in: When you are wearing braces, you should always be ready not to hurt yourself. When your partner pushes his tongue hurriedly in the heat of the moment, you can open your mouth widely and allow his tongue to play with your tongue so that your braces don't hurt you. Make sure your partner is not running his or her tongue over your braces so that both of your could get hurt. Your gums may bleed or his tongue may get bruised. Ask your partner to avoid circular tongue motion as it is not recommended when you are wearing braces.
  • Apply dental wax: Dental wax can help you with pain when you have braces, it can help you with kissing too. You can put some wax covering the front side of your teeth, then you can kiss without any worry about braces and your partner can also use his tongue comfortably. Alternatively you can visit your dentist and smoothen the edges so that you can make your teeth more kissable.
  • Avoid getting locked: Imagine when both of you are wearing braces, as this can happen among teen boys and girls. Then kissing can potentially lock braces together making kissing a bloody experience. When you happen to experience the most unlikely event of braces locking, don't panic. Just tilt your head in one direction and make her tilt her head in the opposite direction so that you can come out of the braces-locking.
  • Be patient and choose the right angle for the kiss: When your partner is wearing the braces, then you need to go slow and position your head in such a way that kissing becomes comfortable and enjoyable to you both. You can choose any angle that is comfortable to you and her.
  • Relax and enjoy your moment - You don't have to panic thinking about what's going to hit or what's going to get snagged, then you can never enjoy your kiss. You just need to be bit careful and then there is nothing you need to worry about. So, enjoy your special time with your partner and have a great time.
