Delay condoms carry a mild local anaesthetic — most commonly benzocaine, and in some lines lidocaine — in the lubricant on the inner surface of the condom. The agent slightly reduces penile sensitivity, which extends the time to climax. Because it is applied inside the condom, transfer to the partner is minimal. The condom itself provides the same contraceptive and STI protection as a standard latex condom: used correctly and consistently, condoms are approximately 98% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Both agents are widely used topical anaesthetics. Benzocaine is the more common choice in Indian delay condoms, used by Durex, Skore, KamaSutra, Manforce, and Carex. Lidocaine, used in the Moods All Night line, acts on nerve signalling slightly differently. Individual response varies, and users who find one agent too strong or too weak sometimes prefer the other.
